Overview

Flying to Usedom by helicopter

How long is the helicopter from Berlin to Usedom?

About 60 minutes each way. Berlin Helicopter's Bäderflug leaves the General Aviation Terminal at Strausberg airfield, east of Berlin, and lands at the island airport of Heringsdorf, about 170 km away, with three hours on Usedom included. It is sold for the whole helicopter from €5,400 for six seats (€900 per seat), VAT included.

Usedom's seaside resorts are a long drive from Berlin, and an hour by helicopter from Strausberg.

The Bäderflug crosses Brandenburg and follows the Baltic coast to the three imperial spa resorts of Usedom before landing at Heringsdorf. You choose the time of the return flight.

It is always booked as the whole helicopter, with six seats including two next to the pilot. For another date, departure point or landing site, we quote a private charter.

Landing anywhere on the island other than the airport needs the landowner's consent and a permit from the state aviation authority under section 25 of the Luftverkehrsgesetz.

German law

Where a helicopter may land in Germany

Away from an airfield, a helicopter needs two things before it lands: the landowner's consent and an Außenlandeerlaubnis from the state aviation authority.

  • Section 25 of the Luftverkehrsgesetz (LuftVG) allows a take-off or landing outside an approved airfield only when the landowner or other entitled party has agreed and the aviation authority has issued a permit.
  • The permit is granted by the aviation authority of the federal state (Land) where you land, which carries out this task for the federal government under section 31(2) no. 13 LuftVG.
  • Using an airfield outside its runways, outside its opening hours or during its restricted hours also needs the airfield operator's consent and a permit.
  • Permits can be general or for one landing, and can carry conditions and time limits.
  • No permit is needed for an emergency or safety landing, or at a designated landing site of public interest, which the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt approves.
  • The landowner can claim compensation for damage caused by the take-off or landing.
  • Approved helipads are licensed landing sites; anything else is an off-airfield landing that needs the permit from the competent aviation authority.

Billing

What goes into a helicopter price

On a private charter you hire the whole helicopter and its pilot, so the price is per flight, not per seat.

  • Flying time at the hourly rate for the type: as a guide, €1,420 to €4,130 per flight hour for the whole helicopter.
  • Positioning when the helicopter is based away from your pickup point, both to reach you and to fly home.
  • Landing and handling charges at the airports and airfields you use.
  • The landing permit for a meadow, car park or company site. HeliSeven, for example, offers to organise the official permits as an add-on and prices each charter on flight time, route, landing site and extras.
  • Shared sightseeing seats are cheaper: from €185 per person in Berlin and from €259 per person from Augsburg or Mainz, VAT included.
