Flying private with pets to and from Germany
Dogs, cats and ferrets travel under the EU pet rules: a microchip, a valid rabies vaccination and the right document. From some countries outside the EU a blood test and a three-month wait come first.
- Microchip
- Before the rabies jab
- Wait after first jab
- 21 days
- Pets per owner
- Up to 5
- Banned breeds
- 4, by federal law
How pet travel works
A microchip, a rabies vaccination given after the chip and at least 21 days before travel, and the identification document: an EU pet passport within the EU. From countries not on the EU's list, a rabies antibody test is also needed, followed by a three-month wait.
The rules are the same however you fly. What a private charter changes is where your pet sits: the operator, not an airline cargo policy, decides whether pets ride in the cabin.
EU Regulation 576/2013 governs the non-commercial movement of pets. It allows up to five pets with their owner or an authorised person, and treats a pet as travelling with its owner if it moves within five days before or after them for good, documented reasons.
Tell us the pet's species, breed, weight and crate size when you ask for a quote, so we only offer aircraft whose operator accepts it. For costs, start with our private jet price guide.

Flying with a pet within the EU
- Microchip first: the rabies vaccination must be given after the chip is implanted or read, and the chip number entered in the EU pet passport.
- The first rabies vaccination can be given from 12 weeks of age, and protection takes another 21 days, so young animals can travel from about 15 weeks.
- The pet travels with an EU pet passport showing a valid rabies vaccination.
- Up to five pets per owner. More are allowed only for competitions, shows or sporting events, with written proof of registration and animals over six months old.

Bringing a pet in from outside the EU
If you leave Germany and come back from a non-listed country, the Berlin veterinary office recommends having the antibody test done before you go, so the three-month wait does not hold you abroad. The result can be recorded in the EU pet passport.
| Coming from | What is needed |
|---|---|
| A listed third country (Annex II of Regulation 577/2013) | Microchip, valid rabies vaccination and the identification document; no antibody test |
| A non-listed third country | Microchip, rabies vaccination, then a rabies antibody test on a blood sample taken at least 30 days after vaccination and tested by an EU-approved laboratory, then a three-month wait after the test |
Pets from outside the EU are checked at a travellers' point of entry, where the owner shows the documents and the animal. Each EU country keeps a list of its points of entry.

Dog breeds that may not enter Germany
Federal law bans bringing Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers and Bull Terriers into Germany, including crosses of these breeds with each other or with other dogs. The federal government can allow exceptions by regulation, so tell us the breed at the start and we check before quoting.
Germany's federal states can treat further breeds as dangerous, and those dogs may not be brought into that state from abroad.
Questions, answered
Still deciding? A charter specialist will talk you through aircraft, airports and price, with no obligation.
Ask a specialistCan my dog sit with me on a private jet?+
That is the operator's decision on a private charter, not an airline cargo rule. We confirm in writing that the operator accepts your pet on that aircraft before you book.
How long before travel must my dog be vaccinated against rabies?+
At least 21 days after the first vaccination, which must come after the microchip. Puppies can be vaccinated from 12 weeks, so they can travel from about 15 weeks.
Does my pet need a blood test to enter Germany?+
Only when coming from a third country that is not on the EU's list. The sample is taken at least 30 days after vaccination, and a three-month wait follows the test.
How many pets can I bring?+
Up to five per owner under the EU rules, unless the animals are travelling for a competition, show or sporting event with proof of registration.
