Overview

Flying to Courchevel by helicopter

How long is the helicopter to Courchevel?

About 25 minutes from Chambéry, 30 minutes from Geneva and 40 minutes from Lyon, landing at Courchevel altiport (ICAO LFLJ) above Courchevel 1850. Héli Sécurité and Monacair publish fares from €2,700 from Chambéry, €3,100 from Geneva and €3,950 from Lyon for the whole helicopter (indicative, 19 October 2026). Flights run in daylight: night flights are banned.

Courchevel altiport sits at about 2,008 m at the top of Courchevel 1850, with ski slopes a few metres from the runway. Helicopters make up about 70% of its winter traffic.

The altiport is run by the commune of Courchevel and is open all year. Its runway is only 537 m long with an 18.6% slope, so aeroplanes need a special rating; helicopters have no such requirement.

In winter the road from Geneva takes about 2 hours 30 minutes, according to Héli Sécurité. A helicopter lands you in the resort, and Héli Sécurité includes a chauffeur on to your chalet or hotel.

The rules

Rules at Courchevel altiport (LFLJ)

  • Opening is limited to 09:00 to 19:00 local time, except for rescue flights or with the operator's agreement. Night flights are banned.
  • Helicopters need no site qualification; aeroplane pilots need a mountain rating or an access authorisation.
  • Flights from outside the Schengen area are not accepted. Flights from Schengen countries outside the EU, such as Switzerland, need customs notice 24 hours ahead.
  • Helicopters avoid flying over Courchevel 1850 and Courchevel 1650 (Moriond), and do not land or take off on set tracks while an aeroplane uses the runway.
  • Stands 1, 2 and K6 take helicopters up to the size of an AW139; others take an H145 or H130. Jet A1 fuel for helicopters comes from SAF Hélicoptères.

Weather and season

Snow, cloud and the season

  • The runway is cleared of snow all winter, and AFIS and fire cover run through the season.
  • There is no instrument approach and no runway lighting, so fog and low cloud stop flights. Leave time in your plans for a weather hold.
  • Very high snow banks can line the runway, and dust can cause brown-out.
  • Courchevel's 2026-27 winter season runs from 4 December 2026 to 18 April 2027; the altiport stays open all year.

Billing

What goes into a helicopter price in France

A private helicopter is priced for the whole aircraft and its pilot, per flight, not per seat.

  • Flying time at the hourly rate for the type: as a guide, €1,420 to €4,130 per flight hour for the whole helicopter.
  • Positioning when the helicopter is based away from your pickup point, out to you and back to base.
  • Landing, handling and parking at the heliport or airport. At Monaco, handling must be requested before arrival.
  • Waiting time if the helicopter holds for you during the day.
  • On the Riviera and in the Alps, Monacair and Héli Sécurité publish indicative "from" fares per helicopter for set routes; the final quote depends on date, type and passengers.
