Overview

Flying to Capri by helicopter

How do you get to Capri by helicopter?

Helicopters land at the Damecuta heliport in Anacapri, which serves rescue flights, links with the mainland and tourism. Hoverfly flies Naples to Capri in about 20 minutes from €1,900, and Rome to Capri in about an hour from €5,400. From Salerno the flight takes about 15 minutes, and Ravello, on the Amalfi Coast, is 20 minutes away.

The helicopter replaces the ferry and the crowds at Marina Grande with a 20-minute flight across the bay.

Hoverfly, which runs Capri Helicopters, names Capri as one of its two main heliports on the bay, with Naples. Its ruins tour over Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius can start from Capri.

At Damecuta a taxi can stop a few steps from the landing place, and transfer companies arrange the ride on to your hotel.

By sea, ferries and hydrofoils run to Capri from Naples, Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi, and from Ischia in summer. Arriving from further away? See private jets to Capri.

Landing on Capri

The Damecuta heliport

Damecuta heliport (LIQC)

In the municipality of Anacapri. Used for rescue flights, links with the mainland and tourism; transfer companies fly in and out here.

Other sites on the island

Any other landing would need the owner's consent and an occasional landing notice to ENAC and the police, and the take-off and landing may not overfly built-up areas.

Weather

Capri has hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters: average highs run from 13.7 °C in January to 32.4 °C in August, with about 67 days of rain a year. Flights are by day under visual rules, so cloud or strong wind can delay one.

Before you fly

Bags, children and paperwork

  • Hoverfly's island transfers take up to 4 passengers, with one bag each of 65 x 40 x 25 cm and 15 kg. Its helicopters take up to 6 passengers; larger groups fly in more than one.
  • Elsewhere its guide is one soft, medium bag of about 15 to 20 kg and one small carry-on each. Extra luggage can follow by road for a fee.
  • Children travel with an adult. Under 2s sit on a parent's lap; older children need a seat. Pets travel in a suitable carrier.
  • The passenger list is an official document: you complete and sign it, accepting the dangerous goods rules. Some airports and helipads ask for passport copies before they authorise the landing.
  • Hoverfly's operations office sends a brief the day before, with meeting points, timings and driver contacts.

Billing

What goes into a helicopter price in Italy

You charter the whole helicopter and its pilot, so the price is per flight, not per seat.

  • Flying time at the hourly rate for the type: as a guide, €1,420 to €4,130 per flight hour for the whole helicopter, plus positioning when it is based away from your pickup.
  • Hoverfly prices each trip on route, helicopter type, passengers, landing permissions, waiting time and operational needs.
  • Some routes have published fares: Naples to Capri from €1,900 including taxes, and Rome to Capri from €5,400 (Hoverfly, 19 October 2026).
  • Italy's aerotaxi passenger tax applies to helicopter charters too: €10 per passenger per leg up to 100 km and €100 from 100 to 1,500 km. See charter taxes and fees.
  • Hoverfly takes payment before the flight, by card through a secure link or by bank transfer.

Italian law

Where a helicopter may land in Italy

Away from airports, ENAC regulates landing sites under its regulation on the liberalised use of landing areas. It took effect on 8 December 2023; the second revision, of 5 February 2026, was published in the Gazzetta Ufficiale no. 73 of 28 March 2026.

  • An elisuperficie is a landing site, other than a heliport, for helicopters only; it counts as elevated when it sits on a structure 3 m or more above the ground. An idrosuperficie is a water site for seaplanes or helicopters with floats, and the regulation treats both as kinds of aviosuperficie, landing areas that are not airports.
  • A permanent elisuperficie opens only after its manager files the documents with ENAC, including the landowner's consent and a noise assessment. Flying starts when ENAC publishes the site, within 30 days of a complete file. ENAC has moved the published list to the Avioportolano site.
  • ENAC checks each site at least every three years and can suspend one whose real state differs from what the manager published.
  • A helicopter may also use an occasional site: up to 100 movements a year, by day under visual flight rules, within 500 m of the notified coordinates. The pilot alone is responsible for choosing the area.
  • Occasional sites need the owner's consent on private land, serve only flights that start and end in Italy with no stop abroad, and the take-off and landing may not overfly built-up areas or crowds.
  • Before the flight, the pilot notifies the local ENAC office and the public security authority of the coordinates and the time window. Since 1 June 2025 these notices go only through ENAC's online portal, with SPID access.
  • Commercial passenger flights may use occasional sites within these rules. A helicopter operator's own base must be a managed elisuperficie with a ground radio.
  • Flying at these sites is visual and by day. Helicopters may fly at night only to a site with lighting and a visual approach guidance system.
  • An elisuperficie in a town may be used only where emergency landing areas exist under the departure and approach paths, unless the helicopter flies in Performance Class 1.
