Helicopter weddings in Germany
An arrival at the venue, a transfer between the church and the reception, or a getaway after dinner. In Germany every landing away from an airfield needs a permit, so the paperwork starts early.

How a helicopter wedding works
Only with permission. Under section 25 of the Aviation Act (LuftVG), a helicopter may take off or land outside an approved airfield only with the landowner's consent and a permit from the aviation authority, the Außenlandeerlaubnis. The states grant it, and there is no right to be given one.
Most wedding flights are short: from an airfield or hotel to the venue, between the ceremony and the reception, or from the venue to the first night's hotel. If the venue cannot get a permit, the helicopter can use the nearest airfield and a car finishes the trip.
The operator applies, not the couple. In North Rhine-Westphalia, for example, only an approved operator may apply, at least 10 working days before the date, with maps, photos and the consents of the landowner and the local public order office.
Permits can be general or for a single case, and can carry conditions and time limits. The authority weighs flight safety, noise and nature protection. HeliSeven, for example, offers to organise the official permits as an add-on to a charter.

What the NRW form asks for at the site
- Approach and departure paths free of buildings, masts and trees, in line with the helicopter's performance class.
- At least four 6 kg powder extinguishers and four 6 kg foam extinguishers placed at the site.
- Rescue equipment, including a first-aid kit and a stretcher, and at least two trained people for fire and rescue.
- A named ground leader, access for rescue vehicles, and the site cordoned off before the helicopter arrives.
What a wedding helicopter costs
Helicopters are priced for the whole aircraft by the flight hour, at about €1,420 to €4,130 in Germany, plus positioning from the operator's base, any waiting time and the landing permit. Ask for one all-in price for the day that includes the permit work.
