How a helicopter wedding works
Often, yes. ENAC's landing areas regulation lets a helicopter use an occasional site chosen by the pilot, with the owner's consent on private land and notice to ENAC and the public security authority before the flight. Use is by day in visual conditions, up to 100 movements a year within 500 m of the notified point, and the take-off and landing may not overfly built-up areas or gatherings of people.
Most wedding flights are short: from an airport to the villa, between the ceremony and the reception, or from the venue to the first night's hotel. Commercial passenger flights may use occasional sites within ENAC's rules.
The pilot alone is responsible for choosing the area and flies a reconnaissance before landing. The area must be at least one and a half times the helicopter's overall length with rotors turning, clear of obstacles and free of people, animals and objects.
Occasional sites serve only flights that start and end in Italy with no stop in another state, so a helicopter coming from Lugano or Monaco cannot fly straight to one.
Hoverfly flies from Rome, Naples and Milan, and Elilombarda from Milan. See our Lake Como and Amalfi Coast helicopter pages for routes in those areas.

Occasional landing sites in Italy
| Rule | What it means for your wedding |
|---|---|
| Occasional site (Art. 8) | Any area the pilot judges suitable for occasional take-off and landing. The pilot alone is responsible for the choice and for the operation. |
| Size and surroundings | At least one and a half times the helicopter's overall length with rotors turning, with obstacle-free approach and take-off paths and no people, animals or objects in the way. |
| Owner's consent | Required on private land. State or public land needs clearance or a concession from the competent authority. |
| Notice (Art. 11) | Before the flight, the pilot sends ENAC's regional office and the public security authority the location, coordinates, flight data and planned time. A cancellation or a delay of more than 60 minutes is reported at once. |
| Limits | Up to 100 movements a year by day under visual flight rules, within 500 m of the notified point, for flights that start and end in Italy. |
| Built-up areas | Take-off and landing may not overfly built-up areas, clusters of houses or gatherings of people. |

What the venue needs
- The owner's consent to land, in writing.
- An open area away from guests, marquees, trees and cables, with approach paths that avoid the village and the guests.
- Someone to keep guests clear during landing and take-off.
- A backup plan, such as a car or a boat, if weather stops the flight.
What a wedding helicopter costs
Helicopters are priced for the whole aircraft by the flight hour, at about €1,420 to €4,130 in Italy, plus positioning from the operator's base and any waiting time. A short transfer near the operator's base costs least. Ask for one all-in price for the day.

Questions, answered
Still deciding? A charter specialist will talk you through aircraft, airports and price, with no obligation.
Ask a specialistCan a helicopter land at my wedding venue in Italy?+
Often, yes, as an occasional site: with the owner's consent, notice to ENAC and the public security authority, by day in visual conditions, and without overflying built-up areas or crowds. The pilot decides whether the area is suitable.
What paperwork is needed?+
The owner's consent on private land, and the pilot's notice to ENAC's regional office and the public security authority before the flight. Restricted airspace rules still apply.
Can the helicopter fly in from Switzerland or Monaco?+
Not straight to an occasional site. Those sites serve only flights that start and end in Italy, with no stop in another state.
How much is a wedding helicopter in Italy?+
About €1,420 to €4,130 per flight hour for the whole helicopter, plus positioning and waiting time.
What if the weather is bad?+
Occasional sites are for daytime visual flying only, so the pilot decides on the day. Plan a car or a boat as a backup.
