Overview

What goes on top of the flight

What taxes apply to a private jet charter in France?

On departures from France, the operator pays the passenger air transport tax for each passenger: the solidarity tariff, which for business jets is €420 to Europe and up to €2,100 long-haul, plus the civil aviation, security and equalisation tariffs. Large airports add a noise tax per take-off. International flights carry no TVA; domestic flights are taxed at 10%.

French aviation taxes are charged per passenger boarded in France and are due from the operator flying the aircraft, which passes them on in the charter price. Flights arriving in France from abroad are not taxed in France for that leg.

The main tax is the taxe sur le transport aérien de passagers in the Code des impositions sur les biens et services (CIBS). It has several parts, called tariffs. Charter, air taxi and business flights are commercial flights and pay them; the official notices say so in as many words. Flights for an owner's own account are not public air transport.

Tarif de solidarité

The solidarity tax on business aviation

The former taxe de solidarité sur les billets d'avion became the solidarity tariff of the passenger air transport tax on 1 January 2022. The 2025 Finance Law (article 30) added a business aviation rate from 1 March 2025.

Per passenger, in force since 1 March 2025. The notice dated 1 June 2026 lists the same amounts, so the 2025 and 2026 rates are the same. Distances are to the capital's main airport of the destination country.

  • Business aviation means a non-scheduled flight on an aircraft with 19 passenger seats or fewer. That covers almost every charter jet and turboprop.
  • The European band covers France, the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and countries within 1,000 km of the French reference airport, such as Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and the United Kingdom.
  • Example: four passengers flying a light jet from Paris to London pay 4 x €420 = €1,680. On a turboprop the same group pays 4 x €210 = €840.
  • Connecting passengers are exempt under the same conditions as the civil aviation tariff.

Per take-off

The noise tax at the larger airports

The taxe sur les nuisances sonores aériennes (TNSA) is paid by the operator on each take-off of an aircraft of 2 tonnes or more from ten airports: Paris-Le Bourget, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Paris-Orly, Nantes, Toulouse, Beauvais, Bordeaux, Lyon-Saint Exupéry, Marseille and Nice.

The tax is the decimal logarithm of the maximum take-off weight in tonnes, times a coefficient for the aircraft's noise group and the time of day, times the airport's rate. Paris-Le Bourget has the highest rate, €75, against €0.50 at Nice and nothing at Lyon. Night take-offs, from 22:00 to 05:59, carry a much higher coefficient: for a noise group 5 aircraft, 2.5 at night against 0.25 by day.

VAT

When TVA applies to a charter

  • International flights: air transport to or from abroad is exempt from TVA under article 262 II 8° of the CGI, including the part of the route flown over France. A charter from Paris to Geneva or London carries no French TVA.
  • Domestic flights: a flight that starts and ends in France is taxable in France for the distance flown over French territory.
  • The rate for passenger transport, whatever the mode, is the reduced rate of article 279 b quater of the CGI, which the ministry confirmed in June 2025 is 10%. So a Paris to Nice charter normally carries 10% TVA.
  • Every quote we send shows TVA as its own line where it applies.

Extras

Airport charges, positioning and handling

Landing, parking and handling at the private terminal are set by each airport and handler and vary with aircraft weight, so the choice of airport moves the total. Positioning, crew overnights, de-icing and special catering can also apply.

None of these are hidden: they are listed on the quote, and the cost calculator gives a first estimate for your route.

FAQ

Still deciding? A charter specialist will talk you through aircraft, airports and price, with no obligation.

Ask a specialist
How much is the solidarity tax on a private jet in France?+

Since 1 March 2025, €420 per passenger to Europe, €1,015 to intermediate destinations and €2,100 long-haul on a jet. On a turboprop it is €210, €675 and €1,025. The June 2026 notice lists the same amounts.

Is there TVA on a private jet charter from France?+

Not on international flights, which are exempt. Domestic flights are taxable in France at the reduced passenger transport rate of 10%.

Who pays the French aviation taxes?+

The operator flying the aircraft is liable and passes them on in the charter price. They are charged per passenger boarded in France, so the leg flying into France is not taxed there.

Do private owners flying their own jet pay the solidarity tax?+

The tax applies to public air transport. The official notices say flights for an owner's own account are not public air transport; charter, air taxi and business flights are.
