Flying from Milan by helicopter
A private helicopter typically costs €1,420 to €4,130 per flight hour for the whole aircraft, plus positioning. The Milan operators we checked do not publish fixed fares or flight times: Hoverfly quotes each trip on route, helicopter, passengers, landing permissions and waiting time. Its Milan flights leave from Bresso Airport, and it also lists a base at Linate.
Milan's helicopters connect the city with Lake Como, the Alpine resorts and the Ligurian coast, and fly guests into the Monza circuit on Grand Prix weekend.
Hoverfly operates from Milan Bresso Airport and lists Lake Como, St Moritz, Portofino, Venice, Tuscany and Courchevel as routes from Milan, with Bellagio, the Dolomites and Cortina d'Ampezzo among its destinations.
Elilombarda, based at Calcinate del Pesce near Varese, has flown air ambulance missions since the early 1980s and logged over 30,000 hours in multi-engine helicopters. It flies private and corporate transport by helicopter and plane, and won the Monza circuit's tender to run the area for Italian Grand Prix guests arriving by helicopter, transfers and private helicopter parking included.

Bresso, Linate and private sites
A general aviation airfield north of the city with a 1,080 m runway, home of Aero Club Milano since 1960 and of an air ambulance base. Hoverfly's Milan flights operate from here.
7 km east of the centre, run by SEA, with a helipad (H1). ENAC lists it as an airport of national interest; Hoverfly lists a base here and Elilombarda's jet base is at the Linate Prime general aviation terminal.
An occasional landing site needs the owner's consent and notice to ENAC and the police, by day and in visual conditions. The take-off and landing may not overfly built-up areas or crowds.

Helicopter trips from Milan
- Lake Como and Bellagio: see helicopter to Lake Como.
- The Alps: St Moritz, Courchevel, the Dolomites and Cortina d'Ampezzo. Occasional sites serve only flights within Italy, so trips to Switzerland or France leave from an airport or a published site.
- The coast: Portofino and the Ligurian Riviera; Venice and Tuscany further afield.
- Monza on Grand Prix weekend: Elilombarda runs the helicopter area for race guests.

Weather and fog
At Linate, average highs run from 7.3 °C in January to 30.7 °C in July, with about 73 days of rain a year. Milan was often wrapped in thick fog in winter, much less so since the turn of the century. Visual flights at landing sites stop when cloud or fog sits low, so winter trips need a fallback by road.

Where a helicopter may land in Italy
Away from airports, ENAC regulates landing sites under its regulation on the liberalised use of landing areas. It took effect on 8 December 2023; the second revision, of 5 February 2026, was published in the Gazzetta Ufficiale no. 73 of 28 March 2026.
- An elisuperficie is a landing site, other than a heliport, for helicopters only; it counts as elevated when it sits on a structure 3 m or more above the ground. An idrosuperficie is a water site for seaplanes or helicopters with floats, and the regulation treats both as kinds of aviosuperficie, landing areas that are not airports.
- A permanent elisuperficie opens only after its manager files the documents with ENAC, including the landowner's consent and a noise assessment. Flying starts when ENAC publishes the site, within 30 days of a complete file. ENAC has moved the published list to the Avioportolano site.
- ENAC checks each site at least every three years and can suspend one whose real state differs from what the manager published.
- A helicopter may also use an occasional site: up to 100 movements a year, by day under visual flight rules, within 500 m of the notified coordinates. The pilot alone is responsible for choosing the area.
- Occasional sites need the owner's consent on private land, serve only flights that start and end in Italy with no stop abroad, and the take-off and landing may not overfly built-up areas or crowds.
- Before the flight, the pilot notifies the local ENAC office and the public security authority of the coordinates and the time window. Since 1 June 2025 these notices go only through ENAC's online portal, with SPID access.
- Commercial passenger flights may use occasional sites within these rules. A helicopter operator's own base must be a managed elisuperficie with a ground radio.
- Flying at these sites is visual and by day. Helicopters may fly at night only to a site with lighting and a visual approach guidance system.
- An elisuperficie in a town may be used only where emergency landing areas exist under the departure and approach paths, unless the helicopter flies in Performance Class 1.

What goes into a helicopter price in Italy
You charter the whole helicopter and its pilot, so the price is per flight, not per seat.
- Flying time at the hourly rate for the type: as a guide, €1,420 to €4,130 per flight hour for the whole helicopter, plus positioning when it is based away from your pickup.
- Hoverfly prices each trip on route, helicopter type, passengers, landing permissions, waiting time and operational needs.
- Some routes have published fares: Naples to Capri from €1,900 including taxes, and Rome to Capri from €5,400 (Hoverfly, 19 October 2026).
- Italy's aerotaxi passenger tax applies to helicopter charters too: €10 per passenger per leg up to 100 km and €100 from 100 to 1,500 km. See charter taxes and fees.
- Hoverfly takes payment before the flight, by card through a secure link or by bank transfer.

Check the operator's certificate
- A paid passenger flight needs an operator with an air operator certificate (COA). ENAC's list of 25 March 2026 shows more than 30 Italian holders approved for helicopters, Hoverfly (IT.AOC.0167), Elilombarda (IT.AOC.0052) and Heliwest (IT.AOC.0088) among them.
- 23 helicopters sit on the charter fleets of the Italian certificate holders in our data, from the single-engine Airbus H125 to the twin-engine AW139.
- Hoverfly flies at night only to and from airports or certified helipads, in twin-engine helicopters approved for night operations.
- As a broker, Altivo Jets names the operator and its certificate on your quote. Our guide Is my flight legal? shows how to check one yourself.
