Overview

What a group charter is

How does a group charter flight work in Brazil?

You hire the whole aircraft and set the route and the times. Air taxi companies authorised by ANAC under RBAC 135 fly the business jets and turboprops on our list. Aircraft certified for more than 19 passenger seats, or for a payload above 3,400 kg, are operated under RBAC 121, the airline rulebook, so a larger group flies with a carrier certified under it.

Brazilian air taxi companies on our list fly 13 heavy business jets, from Gulfstream G550s and G650s in Rio de Janeiro to Global 6000s in São Paulo and Belo Horizonte, and 251 turboprops.

The aircraft follows the headcount and the bags. A heavy jet such as the Global 6000, Gulfstream G550 or Embraer Legacy 600 keeps a small group in a business-jet cabin, and turboprops reach shorter regional runways.

Above that, the group needs an airliner. Under section 121.1, operations with aircraft certified for more than 19 passenger seats, or with a maximum payload above 3,400 kg, fall under RBAC 121, so they are flown by a carrier holding an airline certificate rather than an air taxi authorisation.

Altivo Jets is a broker. We compare operators, name the operator and its ANAC authorisation on your quote and give one price for the aircraft. See is my flight legal? for how to check an operator yourself.

Rules in Brazil

ANAC rules for a group charter

ANAC, the National Civil Aviation Agency, authorises the companies that fly paying passengers and writes the rulebooks they fly under.

  • A paid flight must be flown by an operator ANAC has authorised for air taxi work. RBAC 135 governs these operations.
  • RBAC 121 covers operations with aircraft certified for more than 19 passenger seats, or with a maximum payload above 3,400 kg. Either threshold is enough.
  • Check the operator's name on ANAC's published list of air operators. The company selling the trip is not always the one that flies it.
  • Altivo Jets names the operator and its ANAC authorisation on your quote before you book.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Still deciding? A charter specialist will talk you through aircraft, airports and price, with no obligation.

Ask a specialist
How many people fit on a group charter?+

It depends on the aircraft and its certified cabin layout. Heavy business jets suit small groups. Aircraft certified for more than 19 passenger seats are flown under the airline rules of RBAC 121.

Can an air taxi company fly a group of 50?+

Not under the air taxi rules. Operations with more than 19 certified passenger seats fall under RBAC 121, so a group that size flies with a carrier certified under it.

How do I check the operator is legal?+

Look for its name on ANAC's published list of air operators. We name the operator and its ANAC authorisation on your quote.

How is a group charter priced?+

For the whole aircraft. Heavy jets charter at about R$60.580 to R$94.270 per flight hour, and airliner charters are quoted per trip, with positioning, airport charges and taxes on top.

Which São Paulo airport suits a group flight?+

Guarulhos is open 24 hours and clears customs. Congonhas is closest to the centre but needs a slot for every movement and is not an airport of entry.
