How the Vaishno Devi helicopter works
The Katra to Sanjichhat helicopter costs ₹2,320 one way and ₹4,640 return per person until 31 October 2026. From 1 November 2026 the Shrine Board fare rises to ₹2,700 one way and ₹5,400 return. Book on the Shrine Board's official portal or at the Katra helipad counter; the fare is the same at both.
The shuttle lifts pilgrims from Katra to Sanjichhat, cutting most of the climb to the Bhawan. From Sanjichhat it is about 2.5 km to the shrine.
The Shrine Board runs the service centrally. Global Vectra has flown the route since 2010 and, like the other operators, sends buyers to the Shrine Board rather than selling tickets itself.
On 21 May 2026 a new helipad opened at Hutt village in Katra, built to DGCA norms with a terminal, ticketing and refund counters and a hangar. Operations from the old Serli helipad are moving there.
There is no private landing at Sanjichhat. What Altivo Jets arranges is the journey to Katra: a private jet or helicopter to Jammu, then about 50 km by road.

Reaching Katra, and the rest of the climb
About 50 km by road, 70 to 80 minutes by taxi. Jammu airport is the nearest for a private jet or helicopter.
In June 2024 the Shrine Board started a 20-minute helicopter from Jammu airport to Panchhi helipad: ₹35,000 same-day with darshan and ropeway, ₹60,000 with a night's stay, minimum four passengers. Check whether it runs before planning on it.
A ropeway opened in 2018 replaces an hour's walk with a 3-minute ride, and runs 9 AM to 5 PM.
