How helicopter rent is priced in India
Single-engine helicopters such as the Bell 407 rent for about ₹80,000 to ₹1.5 lakh per flying hour, and twin-engine helicopters such as the AW109 or H145 for about ₹1.5 lakh to ₹3 lakh, plus 18% GST. Operators bill flying time from their base and back, usually with a daily minimum of 2 to 3 hours.
You rent a helicopter by the flying hour, not by the day. The meter runs from the moment it leaves the operator's base until it returns, and most operators bill a minimum number of hours for each day you hold the aircraft.
That is why a 15-minute hop can cost lakhs: if the nearest helicopter sits 150 km away, you also pay to bring it to you and send it home.
Rates also move with demand. In the 2024 general election, operators charged 40 to 50% above routine rates, and twin-engine rates roughly doubled during the 2025 Bihar campaign.

Rates reported by Business Today, YourStory/PTI, Business Standard and ETV Bharat in 2024 and 2025. Chennai quotes in April 2024 were about ₹1.2 lakh single-engine and ₹2.86 lakh twin-engine per hour. No operator publishes a rate card; every trip is quoted.

Helicopter rent for one day
A day's rent is the hours flown, with a minimum, plus GST and any night halt. Here is how the reported figures add up.

The first two rows are our arithmetic on the reported hourly rates, not quotes. Bihar daily bookings were billed with a 3-hour flying charge plus 18% GST.

What you pay for
- Flying hours from the operator's base to you, the trip itself, and the flight back to base.
- A daily minimum: 3 flying hours in the Bihar campaign; 2 hours, with a 5-hour maximum, on Punjab wedding charters.
- Crew night halts when the helicopter stays overnight, for example ₹40,000 a night on Chipsan's Kerala Tourism listing.
- GST at 18% on helicopter charter. The lower 5% rate applies only to seat-share passenger services such as pilgrimage shuttles.
- Long contracts, such as election campaigns, run 45 to 60 days with 2.5 to 3 guaranteed hours a day and about 30 days paid in advance.
