How the trip works
The Maharashtra government's schedule gives three Amrit Snan days: 2 August, 31 August and 11 September 2027 in Nashik, with Trimbakeshwar's third on 12 September. The nearest airport is Nashik (Ozar, VAOZ), about 20 km from the city, with a 3,000 m runway; Mumbai (VABB) is the larger gateway.
The Simhastha is held every 12 years at two sites: Nashik, on the Godavari, and Trimbakeshwar, near the river's source. The last was in 2015. This one opens on 31 October 2026 and the flag comes down on 24 July 2028, with the three main bathing days in August and September 2027.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the schedule in Nashik in June 2025, after a meeting with the akharas. The flag hoisting is at 12:02 pm at Ramkund, with ceremonies at Kushavart Tirtha in Trimbakeshwar. Ramkund and the nearby ghats were closed to devotees for 15 to 20 days before it to finish works.
Nashik Airport is a joint civil and military airfield owned by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. Its civil apron takes up to six aircraft, and its published hours are short: Monday to Saturday, 08:00 to 14:30 IST, other times on request. A ₹556 crore expansion, approved by the Kumbh authority in November 2025, adds a new terminal and about 1.15 lakh sq m of apron, due by 31 March 2027. Until it opens, parking is the first thing we secure.

Nashik and Trimbakeshwar
The city's ghats on the Godavari, centred on Ramkund at Panchavati, are one of the two Kumbh sites. Ozar airport is about 20 km from the city.
Home to one of the twelve jyotirlingas, near the source of the Godavari, 28 km from Nashik (about 30 km by road). Its rites centre on Kushavart Tirtha.
The Simhastha runs from 31 October 2026 to 24 July 2028; the three Amrit Snan days in August and September 2027 draw the largest crowds and the heaviest traffic.

Helicopters at the Kumbh
In April 2026 Maharashtra's tourism department proposed a Kumbh heli-circuit linking Nashik with Shirdi, Grishneshwar, Ajanta and Ellora and Bhimashankar, with operators chosen by bidding and district administrations asked to provide helipads near the temples. Fares, schedules and helipad sites had not been announced when we checked on 19 October 2026, and we found no published helicopter or airspace restrictions for the bathing days.
Outside an aerodrome, a helicopter needs a prepared site, the landowner's consent and notice to the district at least four days before, and the district can refuse on law and order or safety grounds. On the Amrit Snan days, plan for the road. Helicopter charter runs at about ₹1.21 lakh to ₹2.48 lakh per flying hour plus 18% GST, billed from the operator's base.

Still deciding? A charter specialist will talk you through aircraft, airports and price, with no obligation.
Ask a specialistWhen is the Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027?+
The Simhastha opens with the flag hoisting on 31 October 2026 and closes on 24 July 2028. The three Amrit Snan days are 2 August, 31 August and 11 September 2027, with Trimbakeshwar's third on 12 September.
Can a private jet land at Nashik?+
Yes. Nashik Airport at Ozar has a 3,000 m runway, but its civil apron takes about six aircraft and its published hours are Monday to Saturday, 08:00 to 14:30 IST, so parking and timings are booked with the flight.
How far is Trimbakeshwar from Nashik?+
28 km, or about 30 km by road.
Can I take a helicopter to the ghats?+
Only to an approved landing site with district notice. The state has proposed a pilgrim helicopter circuit, but no fares, sites or bathing-day rules were published when we checked, so on the Amrit Snan days the road is the reliable plan.
What does a private jet to Nashik cost?+
Light jets charter at about ₹2.48 lakh to ₹3.52 lakh per flight hour for the whole aircraft, before GST, parking and handling.
